Valve Index is Out of Stock Ahead of Half Life: Alyx’s Launch

In the lead up to Half-Life: Alyx launching this March, the Valve Index headset has sold out worldwide.

In reports from Gamesindustry.biz and Road to VR, the Valve Index virtual reality headset has sold out worldwide except for Japan leading up to Half-Life Alyx’s launch this March.

“We are working hard to build more units and meet the high demand,” says a Valve spokesperson to Road to VR. “We are targeting to be back in stock before Half-Life: Alyx ships.”

Signs were pointing towards the headset completely selling out back in November when there were shortages in certain countries. The headset is sold out across 31 countries. The only exception is Japan still has the headset in-stock and another set which includes the headset and controller. The Valve Index is available in multiple SKUs, including a Full Kit with a headset, controller, and base station, the headset and controller, the headset, the controller, and the base station on their own.

The Valve Index headset was officially announced last April and released in June 2019. The headset features dual 1440 x 1600 LCD displays which are higher quality than OLED screens. It comes with adjustable headphones and lets players maneuver easier than other VR headsets. Additionally, the Base Station 2.0 tracks player movement and the controller features more functionality than the Oculus controller. To get the headset, base station, and controller, it’ll cost $999. Players can also purchase the headset on its own for $499, the Base Station for $149, and the controller for $279.

Half-Life: Alyx was revealed back in November and is the latest game in the Half-Life series. The game is set between Half-Life and Half-Life 2 and has players taking the role of Alyx Vance. Additionally, Half-Life: Alyx will feature new voice actors for Alyx and Eli Vance will make their debut alongside some returning voice actors.

Half-Life: Alyx launches on Valve Index, HTC Vive, and other VR platforms in March 2020. While we wait for the game to launch, you can check out the game’s announcement trailer below.
