Thanks to a new report from Sensor Tower, it's been announced that Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has had the second-largest launch for an AR game.
The latest Harry Potter title made $12 million dollars in its first month, far behind Niantic's other AR juggernaut Pokemon Go, which made $300 million in its first month.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite outpaced other AR titles such as Jurassic World Alive ($10.3 million), The Walking Dead: Our World ($3.9 million), and Ghostbusters World ($200K). Additionally, With 15 million downloads, Wizards Unite was the second most downloaded AR game in its first month.
Wizards Unite launched on June 21 and it garnered three million downloads and $1.1 million dollars in its first weekend. For comparison, Pokemon Go had the largest amount of downloads in its first month with 182 million downloads. Additionally, it made $28 million dollars and received 24 million downloads in its first weekend.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite lets players be a new recruit of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force as they're tasked with containing an outbreak of chaotic magic. Along the way, players are on the lookout for Foundables, which is this game's equivalent of Poke Stops in Pokemon Go. Once you're at a Foundable, it's up to you to cast spells to defeat the magic and save the Muggle world. Additionally, the game can be played with friends as you do a variety of challenges.
