Magic The Gathering developer Wizards of the Coast revealed a new collab with Hatsune Miku for its Kamigawa Neon Dynasty card set expansion.

On February 2, the French Twitter account for Magic The Gathering (MTG) teased a collaboration with Hatsune Miku, and a full reveal happened on February 3, 2022.

Introducing Vocaloid idol Hatsune Miku

Hatsune Miku is a Vocaloid, virtual idols who can sing anything you feed them, in a robotic tune. The first Vocaloids were released in 2003 and the first version of the Hatsune Miku Vocaloid program was launched in 2007.

Hatsune Miku uses the voice of Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita as its base. Saki Fujita most notably voiced Ao in Yozakura Quartet, and Cure Macaron in KiraKira☆Pretty Cure A La Mode. Some of the most popular Vocaloid songs like Senbonzakura have over 40 million views on YouTube.

Hatsune Miku is so omnipresent in Japanese pop culture it often feels like she's always been there. Another popular example is the Nyan Cat meme song, which is sung by Hatsune Miku. There are also Vocaloid rhythm games on arcades and consoles developed by Sega. The latest game in the series is Project Sekai Colorful Stage on Mobile.

Vocaloid characters also regularly appear in many other games and anime IPs, from Shinkalion to Super Robot Wars. Vocaloids regularly get new merch and figures, with several new designs of Hatsune Miku released each year. There have been many other Vocaloid programs released since then, and several popular musicians in Japan are also Vocaloid song makers, such as Kenshi Yonezu.
