Today, Penn State - Blue defeated UCLA Blue becoming this year's Hearthstone Collegiate Champions.

The last phase of the tournament began yesterday as eight collegiate teams -- including the Stanford Cards, Brawling Broncos, Utah Esports, Penn State - Blue, CMU LPE, OPSU, UCLA Blue, and Banana -- were pinned against each other in a single elimination bracket.

After six matches, Penn State - Blue and UCLA found themselves as the final two in the Hearthstone Collegiate Championship. As far as the numbers go, UCLA Blue were the favorite coming into the Finals winning each of their matches without a single player elimination; Penn State - Blue only had one player elimination throughout the final phase. In the end, Penn State - Blue was victorious as they took out each player without losing any in the process.

For reference, eliminations work a little differently than you would expect. Each team consists of three players, each with two lives, giving them six lives total. After a player loses their two lives, they go to the sidelines giving the opposition a slight advantage, not only in life count but in player count. The first to eliminate every player on a team wins the match.

For winning the Hearthstone Collegiate Championships, Penn State - Blue took home $150,000 in scholarships and other prizes.
