Hearthstone‘s upcoming expansion, Knights of the Frozen Throne, is set to release next Thursday August 10. The expansion will see the introduction of over 135 new cards and a chance to return to Icecrown Citadel.
While the expansion had been revealed to be releasing in August, the exact date was not known until the official Hearthstone account tweeted it yesterday.
The new cards are featured in the game’s new card pack. These cards will be available in the game’s Arena mode, or for purchase with either in-game currency or for real-world money. Players have the additional option to pre-order fifty packs for $49.99 and in doing so, they nab themselves an exclusive card back to add to their collection.
Several of the game’s cards have already been unveiled, with many of the legendaries having battlecries associated with adapting a player’s entire deck. Among the 135 new cards, there are nine new Hero Cards.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was my favorite expansion in my eight years of tenure so for me, this Hearthstone expansion means a lot. I personally cannot wait to see how many of the new cards I can open without spending any money.
