I immediately had flashbacks to the movie Seven as I started the adventure Heavy Rain by Quantic Dream. The dark undertones and just the visual effect that the wet weather gives you is eerily familiar. You can almost hear Morgan Freeman lecturing Brad Pitt on the seven deadly sins. In the demo, you start out as Private Detective Scott Shelby, who has been hired to investigate the Origami Murders by the families of the victims. Evidently the police in the game haven’t exactly performed up to par. Shelby is not the only character you play in the game, but I won’t mention anymore of them so you the gamer can experience it for yourself. While it isn’t clear if this will be the first level in the final game, it does give you an idea of what the game is going to give you. Without giving away too much I can say this, prepare yourself to be sucked into a dark mystery that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
I have to say that I was blown away just by the game play and storyline alone. If I had something negative to say about this early view of the game, it would be the character control. It can get a little hectic when your having to do multiple actions during a scene. The controls for Heavy Rain are similar to those in Uncharted 2, where your character performs actions by following a certain pattern on the controller. Although this is easy to get acclimated to by playing the game on a regular basis. First impression is always important to gamers, but from the looks of the demo, gamers are going to embrace Heavy Rain. Stay tuned to DualShockers for the Heavy Rain review coming soon.
