Today, England-based developer Ninja Theory -- makers of Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry -- announced that Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is set to arrive on PS4 and PC digitally on August 8th.

As you may know, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is set to be Ninja Theory's debut on PS4. The game was first announced at Gamescom 2014, with Ninja Theory calling it an "independent AAA" game, aka it's being developed and published independently but with all the quality and production values of a AAA game.

Further, Ninja Theory pitched the game as the product of 14 years of development experience. Over these 14 years Ninja Theory has said that it has developed three key strengths that define its games: ninja-class combat, strong character stories, and a unique art vision. Hellblade is said to take these three key strengths and bring them to the next level, focusing on delivering a deep character in a twisted world, with brutal uncompromising combat.

The game's story is based on both Celtic mythology and Norse mythology, following the personal journey of Senua as she embarks through a hellish world made up of Senua's psychotic manifestations of her own reality and mind.

Hellblade has notably featured extensive motion capture and audio work, which is why the game looks and sounds as good as it does.

Tameem Antoniades, Ninja Theory Co-founder and Chief Creative Ninja accompanied the announcement with the following statement:

"We’re happy to announce Hellblade’s release date after 3 years of open and independent development. Hellblade has been all about trying to rejuvenate the space between ‘indie’ and AAA, where games can be creatively rich but still boast AAA quality. At around half the length of a similar AAA game and half the price, we think Hellblade will give players a unique AAA quality experience at a fair price."

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will cost $29.99 USD when it launches on the above mentioned platforms. If you decide to pre-order the game on PS4 you will receive an exclusive Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice Dynamic Theme that depicts the iconic burning tree scene from the game. If you pre-order it on PC you will receive an exclusive digital comic short called Hellblade: Senua’s Song.
