Pokemon Legends Arceus is one of the most unique games in the series to date, which will make the should of which starter you should pick between Cyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet all the more important.

Taking place in the much earlier days of the Sinnoh region, Pokemon Legends Arceus makes an interesting choice to not give players the typical three Sinnoh region starters to pick from.

Instead, players get to pick from Cyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet, which are from the second, fifth, and seventh generations respectively, and we have some tips on which one you may want to choose.

Who Are The Three Starters?

To give those who are more casual players and haven't played all the games and know all three starters, we decided to give a quick breakdown of who Cyndaquil, Oshawott, and Rowlet were in previous games

The Fire Mouse Pokemon Cyndaquil made its debut in Pokemon Gold and Silver and is a Fire type. It eventually evolves into Quilava and later Typhlosion, which are all strictly Fire types.

Oshawott is known as the Sea Otter Pokemon, who made its debut in Pokemon Black and White. This takes the role of the typical Water starter, which maintains its basic Water typing through its two evolutions Dewott and Samurott.

Lastly, the Grass Quill Pokemon Rowlet first made an appearance as the Grass starter in Pokemon Sun and Moon. Unlike the other two starters that are single typings, Rowlet is a Grass/Flying type Pokemon. This continues onto the second evolution Dartrix, but then changes to a Grass/Ghost type with the final evolution Decidueye.

Pokemon Legends Arceus completely changes the game now though, as the third evolution has been changed entirely with special Hisuian forms that include new typings as well.

Which Starter Should You Pick In Pokemon Legends Arceus?

With everything on a base level of which Pokemon to pick, Rowlet would be the best option simply for its dual typing from the start. This helps you be able to have more move types to use against opposing Pokemon and strengthen your starter as a whole. The disadvantage though is that it will also have more weaknesses as well.

However, what is a major change in Pokemon Legends Arceus are the new Hisuian forms for Pokemon. Like we saw with Alola and Galar, Pokemon in those regions have special variations and the starters are only affected with their final evolutions.

If you want to go into the game without getting spoiled about their typings, you will not want to read any further, but they definitely may make a different in who you want to pick.

Hisuian Typhlosion is now a Fire/Ghost type, Hisuian Samurott is now Water/Dark, and Decidueye is now Grass/Fighting.

None of these typings are anything brand new as there are others that have these typings, but still definitely change up how you will want to use them in battle.

As stated above, Rowlet is still probably the best overall pick for starter from the get go. Cyndaquil is probably second and Oshawott third, but really you can't go too wrong with any of these Pokemon and we'll really know more the more people play the game and figure out the best strategies in the future.
