Death Stranding’s Hideo Kojima Reveals His 5 Favorite Movies of 2019
Known for his love of filmmaking, Death Stranding's Hideo Kojima has officially revealed his favorite movies of 2019, including Parasite and The Irishman.
2019 proved to be a big year for Hideo Kojima, thanks to the release of the long-awaited Death Stranding on PS4 (with the game to come on PC next year). Of course, outside of game development Hideo Kojima is known to be quite the cinephile, and even while he and his development team were in the thick of making Death Stranding, it’s clear that he at least had some time to watch many movies throughout the year, with Kojima sharing some of his absolute favorites.
Over on Twitter, Hideo Kojima revealed his five favorite films of 2019, with Cold War, An Elephant Sitting Still, The Irishman, Border, and Parasite making his list. While a few of these are technically 2018 releases (or came to Western territories in 2019), the list at least shows that Hideo Kojima definitely has a taste for dramatic, engaging cinema, especially with the likes of several foreign films on his list.
Of course, his list also includes several major awards contenders and popular movies from 2019, such as Netflix’s The Irishman (directed by Martin Scorsese), and the foreign film phenomenon Parasite, which was directed by Snowpiercer‘s Bong Joon-ho. Parasite especially is a film that I have been meaning to see, and at least my interest in seeing it is now validated by Kojima being quite a fan of the movie.
In terms of Death Stranding-related news, the game most recently received a new update on PS4 that brings several fan-requested features into the game, such as larger text sizes, improved visibility of Sam’s odradek, and vehicle disposal at any location on the map. Likewise, since the game’s release it has received much praise from the likes of other game creators like Super Smash Bros.‘s Masahiro Sakurai, and walked away from last week’s The Game Awards with three total award wins.
