Hideo Kojima is one of the most popular developers in the world and needs no introduction. From Metal Gear to Tokimeki Memorial Drama Series, the leader of Kojima Productions proved his skills time and time again for four decades now. Kojima's feats make it quite easy to forget that he's a human being like any other, watching anime on a Sunday night. He just like us FR.

In a tweet posted on July 24 on his Japanese Twitter account, Kojima explained how he rarely watches shows on Amazon Prime, so he browsed through the service's catalogue as he was looking for Coda. During his search, he stumbled upon Lycoris Recoil, and was surprised to find himself watching all three episodes aired so far, and eagerly waiting for episode 4.

Hideo Kojima praised Lycoris Recoil for its premise, unusual and yet so typical of anime: high school girls with licenses to kill work at a coffee shop. He praised the first episode's surprising intro, and shared some of the show's key visuals in his tweets, featuring protagonists Chitose and Takina.

In a follow-up tweet, Kojima also pointed out the cleverness of the official abbreviation for Lycoris Recoil. It's LycoReco in English, but it's リコリコ in Japanese, using the same syllabe twice.

Personally speaking, I definitely agree with Kojima's recommendation. While I've only had time to watch two episodes of Lycoris Recoil so far, the series is quite promising. The relationship between Chisato, who uses rubber bullets, and Takina, who has no qualms about killing people, is classic but well executed. And so far, despite the subject matter, it's been a balanced mix of comedy and serious moments. When compared to other girls with guns series, Lycoris Recoil is quite original. It's not a full comedy like Sabagebu, but not as serious as Noir. (You should watch Noir if you haven't yet).

So far, Lycoris Recoil is a great series to pick up, and it's bound to be one of the most popular anime this season. Chika Anzai's performance as Chisato is amazing too, and she's a big reason why her character is so endearing. The story and world-building is praiseworthy as well, and it's even more amazing considering this is Shingo Adachi's first time as director and at series composition.

Last but not least, seeing Lycoris Recoil is an original anime series, no one knows what's gonna happen next. And how dark or yuri the series will be. We're bound to get some surprises in its 13 episodes run.

Hideo Kojima is currently working on several new games at Kojima Productions. Including a Death Stranding sequel which was teased by Norman Reedus.
