On many of the prominent Metal Gear iterations, Hideo Kojima has served as producer, director, writer, and even game designer; a true jack-of-all-trades. He has since established a reputation for himself as one of video games’ premiere directors due to the consistency and strength in each game’s story that he is involved in. In a post on the PlayStation blog, Hideo Kojima reflected on his various projects within the Metal Gear Solid franchise, he also gave some information on what exactly the future holds in store for him, specifically commenting on his latest project, the Fox Engine:

The Fox Engine is nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along. Originally we were going to do this for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but a lot happened along the way and instead it is being made with the engine they have at Platinum Games.

Production studios in Japan are nearly extinct, a fact that we have recognized for nearly 10 years, and although the Fox Engine is not finished we are ready to show what it can do… on August 30th in Japan to be more specific.

No further details were given, but it is rumored that this new engine will power games such as the proposed Metal Gear Solid 5 and the recently announced Zone of the Enders sequel. We will know more on August 30th.
