Hideo Kojima, with his Twitter accounts, might be secretly sharing a countdown every day, teasing a new project reveal from Kojima Productions, perhaps the Silent Hill horror game fans have been waiting for.

Hideo Kojima Twitter countdown theory explained

As pointed out by Reddit users, since August 10, Hideo Kojima has been possibly sharing a countdown to August 19, using his daily good morning tweets. Every day in the morning JST, not at a particular specific time, Hideo Kojima tweets a photo of his phone's screen with a song he's currently listening to. Every single time, the phone's photo displays the current time.

The first tweet was shared on August 10, supposedly starting the countdown, showing the time 9:54. (English tweet)

No tweet with a similar phone photo was shared on August 11. However, on August 12, a new tweet was shared with the phone displaying 8:54 (English tweet)

The tweet shared on August 13 had the phone displaying 6:54. (English Tweet)

The number 7:54 was skipped. I'd say that Hideo Kojima realized then that he didn't tweet a photo on August 11, but forgot to skip a number on August 12 to reflect that, so he skipped a number on August 13 instead.

As a side note, the two last songs are by Mone Kamishiraishi, an actress and singer who most notably voiced Mitsuha Miyamizu in Your Name, the blockbuster directed by Makoto Shinkai.

Right now as I'm writing this, Hideo Kojima hasn't shared a good morning tweet on August 14. Though he is already awake and just had a meeting. We'll see on August 15 whether the supposed countdown continues or not.

Kojima Productions has several projects in development

Moreover, the fan theory goes further than that. The "54" time in all photos would be "sh" in reverse, standing for Silent Hill, implying that Kojima Productions would announce a Silent Hill game at the end of the countdown on August 19, 2021.

Personally speaking, besides Silent Hill, I hope Kojima Productions also ends up announcing a spiritual successor to the Tokimeki Memorial Drama Series games on PS1. With Mone Kamishiraishi voicing the main Heroine.

Thanks to Kojima's name behind it, the majority of video games enthusiasts outside Japan would finally leave behind their negative stereotypes on dating sims and ADVenture games, to fully embrace the genres. It'd be a bigger revolution than the games and cinema merge that Kojima often mentions in interviews.

Hideo Kojima already said in a 2020 interview he wants to make a horror game. However, in another interview, he also denied the rumors claiming Kojima Productions bought the right for P.T.

He also mentioned he's working on at least one new game while another got canceled. Lastly, Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa already teased several projects in yet another interview I translated.

In other news, Death Stranding Director’s Cut will be launching on PS5 on September 24, 2021. The PS4 and PS5 versions will be cross-save. Hideo Kojima also recently stated he’s not a fan of the name “Director’s Cut” for the PS5 version.
