It seems as though every cross-gen title that is releasing in the next few months has its own upgrade plan of some sort. Some of these games will allow purchasers of the current-generation version to upgrade for free to PS5 or Xbox Series X, while others ask purchasers to pay more money in one manner or another. As of now, we know how IO Interactive is approaching this issue with Hitman 3.

Over on the official IOI website today, the developer of Hitman 3 announced the various versions of the title that will be available when it releases early next year. The Standard Edition and the Deluxe Edition are the only two iterations of the game available, with the latter simply containing "Deluxe Escalations, in-game items and suits as well as digital soundtracks and more." Furthermore, pre-orders for Hitman 3 have also become available today meaning that you can snag your own copy right now if you so desire.

As for the upgrades to PS5 and Xbox Series X, IO Interactive has announced that they will be offering owners of Hitman 3 on current-gen platforms to make the jump to next-gen free of charge. However, this only applies to those who buy the game digitally. If you're someone who still likes to buy all of your games physically, you, unfortunately, won't then be able to take advantage of this offer.

While it's not a perfect upgrade system, what IO is offering here is honestly a lot better than other offers we've seen in recent weeks. It's especially not a bad plan considering that Hitman 3 will be released by the time both next-gen platforms are already out. If you want to snag the game on PS5 or Xbox Series X and own one of the new consoles by that time, you can just pick it up natively there anyway.

Hitman 3 is set to arrive next year on January 20 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Stadia, and PC via Epic Games Store. Those who own PS VR headsets will also be able to play through the entire experience in virtual reality, which seems awesome.
