Today Sega released a new batch of screenshots of its upcoming Fist of the North Star game Hokuto Ga Gotoku. On top of the screenshots, we also get a lot of info on the game’s story and minigames.

It’s 199X, and the world is engulfed by nuclear war. The sea dried up, the earth fractured, and it appeared that every life form went extinct. Yet, humanity endured.

The heir of the Hokuto Shinken school, Kenshiro, was then defeated by the master of Nanto, Shin, who kidnapped his fiance, Yuria. Kenshiro single-handedly attacked Shin’s castle to recover his beloved, but after defeating Shin in turn, he is shocked by the news that Yuria is dead.

Thrown in the depths of despair, Kenshiro starts wandering the wilderness, but one day he hears a rumor about a woman named Yuria is alive in a city called “Eden.” The rumor has no basis in fact, but for Kenshiro it’s the last glimmer of hope.

In order to reach Eden, he crosses a desert unforgiving to life. With the thought of finally seeing Yuria again, he braves the sandstorm, and finally finds the “city of miracles.”

Why Ratchet & Clank is the Most Important PS5 Game

Behind Eden, he can see a strange domed building, and the streets at its feet were enclosed in a giant wall. People are crowding the gates, but the guards aren’t letting anyone pass.

In order to see Yuria, Kenshiro defeats some gangsters in front of the walls. The guards are frightened by the sight of men exploding without an explanation, but their captain, named Jagure, aims a gun at the hero’s head.

Jagure thinks Kenshiro is a criminal, and throws him in the underground jail within the city, but that exactly what the heir of Hokuto wanted.

Kenshiro attempts a prison break that night, but he is confronted by a woman, to whom he tells that he needs to locate someone in the city. She encourages him to try to win the Prisoners’ pit fight.

That’s a competition once a month, giving the winner the right to petition to the leaders of the city. Kenshiro decides that is the right way to win his freedom and seek Yuria, instead of being chased like a criminal. In order to participate, he returns to his cell.

The next day, the criminals are gathered in the coliseum, and Kenshiro is thrown into a mob of rough and violent men. He defeats them all, until the final fight, which is against an incredibly dangerous opponent named “Devil’s Rebirth,” and aptly believed to be the incarnation of the devil.

The Prisoners’ pit fight is basically just a public execution, or so the crowd believes, just like everyone thinks that Kenshiro is a dead man, but the heir of Hokuto is different from the rest.

In front of the audience, Devil’s Rebirth is knocked down by the much smaller Kenshiro. Thanks to his victory, the leader of the city finally appears in front of him. It’s a beautiful woman in a white dress. When she removes her veil, she is revealed as the same lady who talked to him the night before.

“What do you want from Eden?” she asks. “I want to see a girl named Yuria… that’s all” Kenshiro responds.

On top of this overview of the story, we also get a look at the minigames included in the game, showing Kenshiro under a light never seen before.

It’s possible to find minigames in and around Eden both during the day and at night, from the flourishing red light district, to the wilderness surrounding the city.

First of all, it’s possible to explore the wolderness on top of a buggy. You can customize it by using various materials, and by improving it, it’s range will also become wider. However, dangerous outlaws may attack the Kenshiro en route, and you can win various rewards by winning a dedicated Rally race.

In “Bartender Ken” you can serve guests as a bartender, serving Kenshiro’s legendary shake, and leading him to solve the problems of his customers while making cocktails that suit the situation best.

Death Batting” is Fist of the North Star‘s version of the batting center. You can basically “bat” thugs charging at you in motorcycles with a steel pillar.

Kenshiro’s Clinic” lets you use the Hokuto Shinken to heal the people of Eden. It’s a rhythm action minigame that lets you do a good job by hitting the right buttons at the same time. Yet, there are also rogues who come to the clinic and “therapy” will be needed for the peace of Eden.

Black Suit Kenshiro” lets you take care of one of the biggest night clubs of Eden. He needs to protect the security and sales of the club, while dealing in his “unique Kenshiro way” with customers that are rowdy or drunk.

Last, but not least, while exploring the wilderness you can dig out game machines and boxes, collecting old games, including Hokuto No Ken for the Sega Mark III (which was localized in the west as “Black Belt” for the Sega Master System)

You can check out all the screenshots below, and if you want to see more, you can also enjoy an epic trailer showing many of these features in action, and some gameplay from Tokyo Game Show.

Hokuto Ga Gotoku will launch in Japan on February 22nd, 2018, exclusively for PS4.
