One of last year's more notable indie darlings was Hollow Knight, a difficult but charming Metroidvania that received amazing reviews when it released all the way back in February of 2017. That being said, many people, including myself, have been waiting to pick the game up until it releases on Nintendo Switch. Today, we finally got a glimpse at offscreen gameplay in handheld mode.

This video was embedded in a new blog post of developer Team Cherry's website that also reveals more information about the Nintendo Switch port. While the developers said they aren't quite ready to announce a release date for the port yet, it is clear a lot of progress has been made in its development. The developer now working to make sure the game runs well at 60fps and is fixing many of the bugs the bugs they are finding in QA testing.

Team Cherry also revealed that due to the fact that the Nintendo Switch port of Hollow Knight has resulted in a ton of "under-the-hood work" on the game, they will be rolling out updates to the PC, Mac, and Linux versions of the game to bring them up to par with the Switch port. The developers also unveiled what they will release after the Nintendo Switch port of Hollow Knight - a free expansion titled Gods & Glory.

Hollow Knight: Gods & Glory will be the game's third free content pack, following The Grimm Troupe and Hidden Dreams, which released last year. This expansion is described by the developers as "an epic celebration of Hallownest’s Glory and the final chapter of the Knight’s journey."

Content-wise, the expansion is poised to include a new character, the alluring Godseeker, and a new quest that will have players encountering many new bosses and new music tracks. Gods & Glory will also give players the ability to glorify (or improve) their charms and will include a new game mode once you beat the story of the expansion. Unfortunately, Team Cherry did not say what exactly this game mode was, just that it is "long requested and is a classic for the genre."
