As the original THQ was falling apart, Gearbox was able to snag the license for the classic Homeworld RTS series. They subsequently revived the series with both a remaster of the original games and Blackbird Interactive's Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak in 2016. The series has been quiet since then, though Gearbox finally began teasing a new game recently. 10 days ago, they confirmed that Blackbird Interactive's new Homeworld game would be revealed during their PAX West Main Theater Show.

Well, that day has finally arrived, and Gearbox Publishing has unveiled Homeworld 3 with a cinematic trailer. In a era where the sci-fi real time strategy game genre is a bit malnourished, this should hopefully be a welcome addition to the libraries of RTS and Homeworld fans alike.

You can check out its reveal trailer below. Homeworld 3 is currently in development at Blackbird Interactive and Gearbox Publishing, and actually has a crowdfunding campaign on Fig for fans who want to be more involved with its development. If you back the game, you'll also get Homeworld Mobile, which you can see a teaser for below. Currently, the game's intended release date is Q4 2022.
