Today marks the two year anniversary of the release of Sony and Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn. To celebrate said anniversary, Guerrilla's Managing Director Hermen Hulst also revealed the lifetime sales for the game, and they're quite impressive.

In total, Hulst announced that worldwide sales for Horizon Zero Dawn have now passed 10 million which is a major feat, especially for a new IP. Specific numbers weren't divulged in particular, but Hulst specified that the sales are "well over" that of 10 million.

Hulst's full message about the sales of Horizon Zero Dawn said the following:

It’s hard to believe that two whole years have passed since we released Horizon Zero Dawn. When the game launched on February 28, I was attending GDC and counting down the minutes with a group of fellow Guerrillas and Shuhei Yoshida. Early feedback suggested that we had something special on our hands, but we never suspected that we’d still be receiving daily messages of appreciation from our players in 2019.

And yet, here we are, already well over 10 million copies sold worldwide; the idea that we were able to bring Aloy’s journey to so many players is astounding. We’ve been deeply moved by the enormous amount of fan creations you’ve posted online, as well as the heartfelt letters you’ve sent sharing your favorite moments from Aloy’s journey.

With these new sales numbers coming to light, you'd have to imagine that a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is all but guaranteed at this point. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, but it still proves that Guerrilla has a surefire winner on its hands and will likely go right back into that universe with whatever the studio's next project is. Many games that release across multiple platforms never end up reaching 10 million copies sold, so for Horizon Zero Dawn to do so on a single platform is even more impressive.

As of now, there's still nothing we have heard about a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn but you'd have to imagine we'll hear more about this title in the coming years as Sony starts to look to unveil its new hardware, which will likely be the PlayStation 5. Until then though, this is all conjecture on my part.

Horizon Zero Dawn is out now on PS4. It still stands as one of my favorite games this generation, so please play it if you haven't already done so.
