Horizon Zero Dawn developers Guerrilla have confirmed that updates for the game's PC version will start to slow down so the studio can work on the sequel, Horizon Forbidden West.

The announcement came as part of Guerrilla's patch notes for Horizon Zero Dawn's most recent PC update. The update "introduces crash fixes and performance improvements" as well as a few other changes. Within the notes, Guerilla added the following statement regarding future updates:

"As our team continues development on our upcoming title Horizon Forbidden West, we are shifting to less frequent updates for Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition for PC after this patch," adding "Please note that we will continue to monitor our community spaces as always!"

The game has received a multitude of patches since its launch on PC last year, to help deal with crashes, fix various bugs and stabilise performance issues. It looks like these will start to wind down now, in favour of supporting the upcoming Horizon Forbidden West, though Guerilla will still support the game should the community report anything egregious.

Horizon Forbidden West was first revealed during Sony's Future of Gaming PS5 reveal event. The game is scheduled for release in 2021 and will receive both PS4 and PS5 versions. Forbidden West is a direct sequel to 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn and will see Aloy travel across a range of new environments and come up against some terrifying new adversaries.

Horizon Zero Dawn's PC Version scored an 8.5/10 in our official review. Of the game, we said: "Horizon Zero Dawn on PC is a fantastic experience. You’ll come for the giant robot dinosaur fights, and probably stay for them too, but also for the mysterious, enchanting world that developer Guerrilla Games has built."

Horizon Zero Dawn is out now for PC and PS4 and is playable on the PS5 through PS Now and backwards compatibility.
