How to Beat Mega Absol in Pokemon GO Raid Guide, Weakness, Counters

While Mega Pokemon are still a controversial topic within Pokemon GO, they can be incredibly useful for both filling the Mega ‘Dex and for helping in raid battles.

Most recently, players had the opportunity to battle and earn Mega Candy for Mega Gengar, one of the best Mega Pokemon in the game.

Now, following that, as part of the “Ghoulish Pals” section of Pokemon GO’s Halloween event, players can encounter the debuting Mega Absol.

As you would expect, it will be appearing in Mega Raids. So, to help you beat Mega Absol, here is our raid guide, including all of its weaknesses and the Pokemon you should be bringing with you.

Every Mega Absol Weakness in Pokemon GO

Mega Absol has only a single type in Pokemon GO, and that type is Dark. This gives it a total of three different weaknesses and three different resistances.

The weaknesses you should try and exploit to beat Mega Absol are Bug, Fairy and Fighting, while avoiding its Dark, Ghost and Psychic resistances.

How to Beat Mega Absol – Raid Guide and Best Counters

If you’re looking to fight fire with fire and take a Mega Pokemon to Mega Absol raids, you’ll want to consider Mega Lopunny, Mega Beedril and Mega Altaria.

Alongside those, the most prevalent type you’ll be using is Fighting. The best picks here are Lucario, Conkeldurr, Machamp, Hariyama, Breloom, Toxicroak, Sirfetch’d, Blaziken, Emboar and Heracross.

The other Pokemon that are worth bringing to Mega Absol raids are Zacian, Togekiss, Gardevoir, Genesect, Granbull, Sylveon and Yanmega.

The following is the best moveset for each of Mega Absol’s counters:

  • Mega Beedrill – Bug Bite/X-Scissor
  • Mega Lopunny – Low Kick/Focus Blast
  • Mega Altaria – Dragon Breath/Dazzling Gleam
  • Lucario – Counter/Aura Sphere
  • Conkeldurr – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Machamp – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Hariyama – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Breloom – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Toxicroak – Counter/Dynamic Punch
  • Sirfetch’d – Counter/Close Combat
  • Blaziken – Counter/Focus Blast
  • Emboar – Counter/Focus Blast
  • Heracross – Counter/Megahorn
  • Zacian – Metal Claw/Play Rough
  • Togekiss – Charm/Dazzling Gleam
  • Gardevoir – Charm/Dazzling Gleam
  • Genesect – Fury Cutter/X-Scissor
  • Granbull – Charm/Play Rough
  • Sylveon – Charm/Dazzling Gleam
  • Yanmega – Bug Bite/Bug Buzz

How Many Trainers are Required to Beat it?

As you’d expect, Mega Pokemon are particularly strong, and you’re going to want to bring at least 5 or 6 trainers to comfortably beat Mega Absol.
