Whenever a new Legendary or Mythical Pokemon is released in Pokemon GO there is palpable excitement, with players clamouring to get one as soon as they possibly can.

This year has already seen the release of X and Y's Xerneas and Yveltal and Sword and Shield's Zacian and Zamazenta and now, we are all set to receive our second mythical Pokemon of the year, Hoopa (following Meloetta from this year's GO Fest).

Hoopa, the Mischief Pokemon, will be available as part of Pokemon GO's latest quarterly season, the Season of Mischief.

As we're into it now, here is what you can do to make sure you can encounter and catch a Confined Hoopa as soon as possible.

When Will Hoopa Be Available in Pokemon GO?

After months of teases, leading back to GO Fest in July, Hoopa will be available for players to encounter and capture from today, Sunday, September 5.

The Pokemon will finally be available at 10 am in your local time zone.

How to Encounter and Catch Confined Hoopa in Pokemon GO.

For players to earn their encounter with Hoopa, they will need to complete step three of the Season-long Special Research Story, titled Misunderstood Mischief.

After completing step one, which includes the tricky "Take 3 Snapshots of Wild Psychic-type Pokemon" task, players will have to then complete step three (don't worry about step two, there are no tasks and it just serves as a barrier between step one and three).

Players will need to complete these three tasks:

  • Make 10 Curveball Throws
  • Catch 10 Different Species of Pokemon
  • Earn 5,000 Stardust

After completing all three tasks and claiming the rewards, players will earn their Hoopa encounter (along with 1000 XP and 1000 Stardust).

What's particularly interesting is that Hoopa has been rewarded so early into the season and into the research, so it remains to be seen what Niantic still has up its sleeves to keep things fresh for the remaining 85 days.
