Although God of War is only playable on Windows 10 or 11 based on the official descriptions, a modder has managed to find a way to play it on Windows 7 or 8 with a small patch.

Without a doubt, God of War has been one of the most anticipated releases of this month for PC gamers. Sony eventually delivered the Game of the Year winner of 2018 to PC with an incredible port that allows gamers to play it at the highest preset with significant frame drops.

That being said, God of War is a game that technically runs only on Windows 10/11, which might sound frustrating for those who still like to stick to Windows 7 or 8. Thanks to a modder, however, there is now a way to run the game on older versions of Windows as well.

How to Play God of War on Windows 7/8 on PC

As reported by DSOG, two modders known as "okt04175" and "alan2350" have shared a new mod on NexusMods that changes the beahviour of God of War's Windows detector, allowing users to play the game on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1.

All you need to do is to download this mod from here as well as all three requirement programs, which have been linked on the mod page. Make sure to read the full descriptions of the mod and the requirement files before installing.

We don't know if running the game on Windows 7/8 would affect on the overall performance, but since the only thing the patch does is changing the Windows detector behaviour, this shouldn't have any significant affect on the frame rates you get.

God of War is now available on PS4, PS5, and PC.
