Licensed games have been making a comeback recently, with several of them being spearheaded by British publisher Outright Games. Following their work on licensed games like Ben 10, Adventure Time: Pirates of the Enchiridion, Hotel Transylvania 3: Monsters Overboard, and Paw Patrol: On a Roll, Outright Games and Climax Studios announced today that they are partnering to create a brand new game based on Dreamwork's How to Train Your Dragon series titled DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders.

DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders will be released in February 2019 to coincide with How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. The release date for The Hidden World was recently moved up to February 22, so it's likely that DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders will  release on that same date. Watch out Anthem and Metro: Exodus.

While this game is releasing on one of next year's most notable days for highly anticipated game releases, DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders will likely still find some success as it's a licensed game. Surprisingly, DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders isn't a direct adaptation of the movie, as it will be telling its own original story following a new character called Scribbler and his dragon Patch.

Gameplay will have players switching between the two in order to solve puzzles or fight enemies in combat, with their ultimate goal being to stop the evil Eir. While a trailer hasn't been released for the game yet, some screenshots which you can see at the end of the article do give us a better idea of what to expect from the game. Terry Malham, CEO of Outright Games, commented on how excited he is to be working with Universal Games and Climax Studios on a game based on one of Dreamworks' most popular franchises:

"The first feature film How to Train Your Dragon debuted eight years ago and has since sparked a beloved franchise that has captivated audiences around the world, inspiring additional films, television shows and more. DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders gives us a wonderful opportunity to be a part of Dragons history by partnering with Universal to create an original story introducing two new, very special characters. We look forward to unveiling more details soon!"

DreamWorks Dragons Dawn of New Riders will come to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch sometime in February 2019 alongside How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which hits theaters on February 22. While the odds are definitely stacked against the title due to Outright Games' spotty track record and the poor quality of previous How to Train Your Dragon games, I can't help but be a little excited for it as a fan of the series.
