Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Revealed, Will Launch This November
The latest Hyrule Warriors title is exploring the events leading up to Calamity Ganon's devastation of Hyrule
While it may not be Breath of the Wild 2, a new adventure set in The Legend of Zelda‘s age of calamity is on the way.
Revealed in a sudden trailer drop today, this next title isn’t a main-line Legend of Zelda game. Instead, it’s one of KOEI Tecmo’s Hyrule Warriors spin-offs, albeit with a much more pertinent plot.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will put players in the shoes of not just Link, but the other legendary heroes that fought against Ganon’s forces 100 years before Breath of the Wild takes place. Fans of BotW may remember that the battles during this time are mentioned, and sometimes even seen through Link’s memory cutscenes, but they’ve never been experienced directly.
If you’ve played the previous Hyrule Warriors title, you already know what to expect from Age of Calamity. Battles on a massive scale featuring extremely over-powered heroes and hundreds of enemies to plow through are a staple of this Dynasty Warriors inspired spin-off. Do expect some juicy story and Legend of Zelda lore, though. KOEI Tecmo has worked closely with Nintendo’s Legend of Zelda team not just to get the game’s art-direction right, but also dialogue. Don’t think of Age of Calamity as a game set 100 years before Breath of the Wild, but rather a telling of the story leading up to Link’s return.
Best of all, you won’t have to wait all that long to hop back into Hyrule. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is set to come out on November 20, 2020. Retail prices for the title have not been released. For more information on the game, you can check out its site here.
