Ibai “Ibai” Llanos Garatea broke the Twitch record for most concurrent viewers during his Velada Del Año II boxing event on June 26.

Garatea began his career as a League of Legends caster, commentating for the Spanish regional league. After a year of casting, he became a content creator for G2 Esports. About a year after beginning his stint with G2, he left the organisation to form his own streaming brand. In late 2021, he formed the esports team KOI with professional football Gerard Piqué. Ibai has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years, rising from relative obscurity to one of the most popular content creators in the world.

The event pulled in 3.3 million concurrent viewers, beating out the previous record of 2.5 million held by the Grefg. During the course of the stream, Ibai gained over 45,000 subscribers and over 400,000 followers. Ibai was already the biggest Spanish-speaking streamer in the world prior to this event, but now his legacy has been cemented. The entire event has been uploaded to YouTube and can be viewed below:

La Velada del Año II was a boxing event where Spanish content creators and online personalities faced off. As the title implies, it was the second event of its kind, with the first occurring in May 2021. This event follows the recent trend of content creators participating in boxing matches for entertainment, with another recent example being iDubbbz’s “Creator Clash” which took place last month.

The official Twitch account tweeted: “HISTORIA. Congrats to Ibai on setting a new Twitch record with a peak of over 3.3M concurrent views during today’s boxing and entertainment event, La Velada del Año II”

This incredible number of viewers is also a testament to how large the Spanish-speaking audience is on Twitch, with Ibai at its helm.
