Limited Run Games is at it again, this time announcing the release date for the physical edition of Iconoclasts. Coming from Joakim "Konjak" Sandberg and publisher Bifrost Entertainment, this game is a Metroidvania-like 2D platformer, with its physical release coming on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and the Nintendo Switch.Players take control of a character named Robin, a mechanic who has access to several helpful tools. Her wrench functions as both a melee weapon and as a puzzle-solving tool; likewise, she can use stun-guns, roller bombs, and more. The term "Metroidvania" is a bit overused these days, but the environmental puzzles giving access to new areas is certainly one of the defining traits of that so-called genre.Iconoclasts was amongst a number of titles that Limited Run Games announced at E3 2018 for physical releases, alongside other independent games like Yooka-Laylee, Golf Story, Spelunky, and numerous other titles. Celeste is one of the latest indie titles slated for the Limited Run treatment. As with all of their offerings, "limited" really does mean limited, so when all copies are gone, they're totally gone. For those unsure whether or not they want to make shelf space for Iconoclasts, the PS Vita version is currently free now until January 1 as part of the usual PlayStation Plus free monthly games—with cross-buy, purchasers will also get the PS4 version. Or at least that's my understanding of how cross-buy works—like many others, I've never owned a Vita. The physical version of Iconoclasts will arrive for the Switch, PS4, and the Vita on January 18, 2019.
