Released all the way back in 2001, Ikaruga from developer Treasure and publisher SEGA in the years since has been regarded as one of the all-time greats for the shoot 'em up genre, and now it appears that the studio is working its way to bringing the classic on-the-go.Developer Treasure shared an image on its official Twitter account of what appears to be Ikaruga running on the Nintendo Switch, with the game displayed in both the traditional horizontal format for the system and in a vertical orientation that's true to the design and format of the original game when it first released in arcades and on subsequent platforms after.Alongside a photo of the game running on the system, Treasure stated that while the game (so far) seems to run well in the system's default horizontal configuration, the studio said that the vertical orientation appears to still need work to implement properly. While this isn't quite a confirmation yet of the game releasing on the system any time soon, it's still encouraging to see Treasure working on adapting Ikaruga for the Switch, and hopefully we'll get confirmation of its release for the system sometime in the near future.Ikaruga first released in arcades in December 2001, and was released subsequently on Dreamcast, GameCube, and Xbox 360 in the years since, with its most recent release being on PC in 2014.
