In Case You Were Wondering What’s Up With Steam’s Forums…

Last week I was spending a lot of time on Steam poking around the Skyrim forums. Then, unexpectedly on Monday, the forums themselves were “down for maintenance”. I thought nothing of it at the time, because hey, it’s a huge deal to maintain those forums. I figured they were just doing regular patches, fixes or whatever behind the scenes.

However, today, two days later, the forums are still down. Doing a little research, I found out that apparently the Steam forums were hacked. Whoever did it actually changed some text on the forums and sent spam to users, so Valve took the forums offline to clean stuff up and, most likely, take a good, hard look at their security. This comes at a pretty bad time with both Modern Warfare 3¬†and Skyrim coming out this week – both of which are the top selling titles on the digital distribution platform at the moment. Let’s hope things are sorted out quickly so everyone can get back to complaining about games on the Internet instead of playing them.
