Machine Games, the studio best known for creating the Wolfenstein series, is currently hard at work developing a new Indiana Jones game, which director Todd Howard says is going to be a "unique mash-up" of genres.

Speaking to Lex Fridman on his latest podcast episode, Howard was asked about the upcoming Indiana Jones game, specifically if it would be more on the action-adventure side of things in terms of genre. In response, Howard said, "I would just say it is a mash-up. It is unique, it isn't one thing intentionally".

Howard expanded on his answer by saying, "it does a lot of different things that we've wanted to do in a game, it's a unique thing". During the podcast, Howard also revealed that the idea for an Indiana Jones game was pitched to Lucasfilm all the way back in 2009, but the deal, unfortunately, fell apart due to Bethesda and Lucasfilm failing to come to an agreement on publishing rights.

Now, over ten years later, Howard returned to Lucasfilm to pitch the idea once again. According to Howard, things were a lot easier this time as Lucasfilm now works under Disney, who appear to be more on board with licensing out their properties for adaptations. The video game director also notes that his team in 2009 wouldn't have been as perfect of a fit for an Indiana Jones title as Machine Games are. Howard says the team are creating a "love letter" to fans of Indiana Jones, and that if you're a fan of the classic movies, you're going to love everything about the studio's upcoming game.

Todd Howard will serve as the executive producer for the upcoming Indiana Jones game, which is being developed by Machine Games, the studio best known for the recent Wolfenstein games. The project was first announced in January of 2021, but as we approach the two-year anniversary of the announcement, there have still been no further details on the project shared.
