With May only a few days away, it’s easy to forget that two DC fighting games are being released soon. While everyone is hyped for the console drop date of Injustice 2, the mobile version is actually coming out a few days before the main event. You can actually ‘pre-register’ now before the May 11th release on Android and iOS to nab a free version of Catwoman in battle card form.
It’s not really clear what this early preorder really does. Injustice 2 Mobile is a free app with microtransactions and after it releases, it’s not like it will run out of stock. To pre-register, you can go to the official site and enter in your email address. From there you’re given the opportunity to have a calendar alert to when the mobile game launches, maybe indicating that you’ll be notified the exact minute it is available.
As for the Catwoman bonus, the site warns that she ‘will be gifted during the first week of launch only’. This likely indicates that you still have to pre-register before May 11th and then ‘activate’ the promotion in the first 7 days. The Injustice 2 Mobile twitter page was kind enough to show app Catwoman in action, tearing her opponent to ribbons.

Admittedly, it’s quite odd to preorder a mobile game and it’s most likely going to be used by Warner Bros to track interest in both the console version and the app. Plus they get your email address too. However, the bite-sized Injustice 2 will be a nice distraction until the Xbox One and PS4 release on May 16th. And if history serves us right, there will be incentives to link the mobile game with the console counterparts.
For the Mortal Kombat X release two years ago there were numerous rewards for linking the two versions of that game. Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage and Jax were all given new costumes that could be transferred to consoles. It also unlocked the amazing Injustice garb for Scorpion for MKX.
There have been some rumors that the Crime Syndicate version of Cyborg, namely Grid, will be a premiere skin bonus only available through Injustice 2 Mobile. Unfortunately there’s currently no official confirmation of this from NetherRealm Studios but it does seem at least plausible given the history of these apps and console games.
Whether the syncing bonuses will include new skins or the much touted gear system pieces or costumes, it still will be nice to take a part of Injustice 2 with you on the go and get rewards for doing so. Will you be picking up mobile Catwoman early?
