NetherRealm revealed its newest character for their upcoming fighting game Injustice 2 and it's none other than Swamp Thing.

The news comes from IGN who released the first gameplay video showing Swamp Thing in action. The trailer features Swamp Thing taking on other characters from Injustice 2's roster like Batman, Wonder Woman, and Robin. We also get a look at some of the moves that Swamp Thing will utilize in the game, and a lot of them center around his use of branches, vines, and other marshland related abilities. He also has the ability to create duplicates of himself to beat down other characters, in addition to sprouting wings and flying after winning the match.

Judging by the gameplay video, Swamp Thing seems to be a slower, more powerful character when compared to others on the Injustice roster. Characters like Gorilla Grodd or Bane seem to be apt comparisons when looking at the move sets we have seem from each of them. It's also important to note that Swamp Thing has taken many different forms over the years, but it seems like NetherRealm has opted to style their version of him after the more recent "New 52" design of the character.

Prior to Swamp Thing, NetherRealm recently revealed Black Canary as one of their newest characters in the game only a few short days ago. With the inclusion of both her and Swamp Thing, this now brings the character roster up to nineteen: it's probably safe to assume that we will see more characters revealed in the days and weeks leading up to release.

Catch Swamp Thing, Batman, Superman, and many other characters in Injustice 2 when it launches on PS4 and Xbox One on May 16 - in the meantime, you can check out the new gameplay trailer for the title below from IGN:
