After working together on Hitman 2 and Hitman HD Enhanced Collection, developer IO Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that they'll be continuing this partnership on a new game.

Details of what this new title is at the moment haven't been given, but it seems as though it won't be related to Hitman. A statement from IO's CEO Hakan Abrak referred to this project as being in a "new universe" seemingly indicating that Agent 47 won't be what it centers on. Further information on a release date and platforms also haven't been given, other than the fact that it'll be coming to PC and consoles.

This news isn't out of left field by any means as we've previously been aware of the fact that IO was working on a new IP. This clearly seems to be what that mystery project is and today's announcement only further verifies that IO is developing something new.

That said, work on Hitman doesn't seem to be ending, either. While IO might have a new franchise in the pipeline right now, Hitman 3 is reportedly also being worked on and may go back to the episodic format that was seen in the relaunch of the series a few years back.

Regardless of when we'll hear more about this new IP and Hitman 3, one thing is for certain: IO Interactive seems to be very busy right now. With new consoles arriving late in 2020, perhaps the studio will have something to release on these new platforms around their launch.
