iRacing Flies to Japan with Official Super GT Series and Virtual Honda HSV-010

It’s not a mystery that one of my earlier complaints about iRacing was focused on its US-centric nature, but lately the folks at have been working on addressing the issue on the double.

Today they announced that another “exotic” series will join the line-up of officially sanctioned iRacing series: Super GT, the Japanese Gran Turismo Series that sees the major Japaese manufacturers compete for supremacy with some of the most beautiful racing cars in the world.

The featured car in the new series will be the  Honda HSV-010, purposely desiged and built for Super GT. iRacing desigers will begin to work on it’s virtual version this fall.

Steve Myers, executive vice president and executive producer said:

We’re pleased, make that doubly pleased, to join our new partners in bringing all the excitement of the Super GT Series and the Honda HSV-010 to iRacing. The Super GT Series offers some of the fastest, most innovative and competitive GT racing in the world, and no car better embodies that speed and innovation than the Honda HSV-010.

With our digital versions of Okayama International, Twin Ring Motegi and the Suzuka International Racing Course, iRacing has an excellent foundation of tracks for our Super GT Series. We also have a licensing agreement in place with the Tskuba Circuit and have laser-scanned the track, so the Super GT Series will certainly have an authentic flavor to its schedule.

The organizers of the Super GT series also released a statement:

We are excited to work with iRacing to develop an online version of the Super GT Series. We believe ours is the most innovative and exciting GT racing series in the world, and our fans around the world obviously agree. The Super GT Series is proud to join some of the world’s other leading sanctioning bodies in sanctioning an online racing series with iRacing.

And finally America Honda Motorsports Manager T.E. McHale added:

Previously, we have worked together to develop iRacing’s IndyCar Dallara and the HPD-ARX01c sports prototype, and have been very pleased with the results. We have no doubt that the Honda HSV-010 will quickly become one of the most popular cars on the iRacing service.

Considering that Super GT is probably my favorite racing series overall, I can’t say I’m not excited.
