As far as featured Legendary Pokemon are concerned, there aren't many more popular than Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza.

The mascots debuted in Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald and have gone on to become some of the most recognisable amongst all of the Legendaries.

Now, the trio has returned to raids during Pokemon GO Fest Day Two, with Groudon appearing during the Lava Hour, Kyogre during the Frost Hour and Rayquaza during the Thunder Hour.

The question is, are Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza good and what's their best moveset? Should you spend your Raid Passes on them? Let's figure it out.

Can Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza Be Shiny at GO Fest?

Thankfully, yes.

Of the three, Kyogre was the first to release, more than three years ago during June 2018's Water Festival Event.

Groudon followed next during the Hoenn Celebration at the start of 2019 before Shiny Rayquaza dropped on July 31, 2019.

These three have the most varied Shiny Forms released across the first few games.

Groudon changes from red to lime green, Kyogre to a shade of purple and most impressively, Rayquaza to black and gold. This has meant that Rayquaza is easily one of the most sought after Shiny Pokemon in history.

Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza will almost certainly have boosted Shiny odds at GO Fest of 1 in 20.

Is Groudon Good in Pokemon GO - What's its best moveset?

Groudon doesn't make an impact in either the Great or Ultra League and the Master League is definitely where the action is at.

Ranking site PVPoke has Groudon down as the 20th best Pokemon in the whole league, provided you power it up with XL Candies and use an Elite Charged TM on it.

In the Master League, it can overcome some of the toughest Pokemon including Dialga, Giratina and Garchomp.

The moveset you're going to want to use for it is:

  • Fast Move - Mud Shot
  • Charge Move - Earthquake
  • Charge Move - Fire Punch*

*Elite Charged TM Required.

Is Kyogre Good in Pokemon GO - What's its best moveset?

Much like Groudon, Kyogre doesn't make a splash until you reach the Master League where it's ranked as the 31st best Pokemon.

Its Ice-type move allows it to beat some pesky Flying-type Pokemon, including Togekiss and Yveltal, however, Kyogre is still not strong enough to beat a few of the Dragons, including Dialga, Giratina and Dragonite.

If you're going to want to run with Kyogre, the moveset you'll want is:

  • Fast Move - Waterfall
  • Charge Move - Surf
  • Charge Move - Blizzard

Is Rayquaza Good in Pokemon GO - What's its best moveset?

For such a cool looking Pokemon, Rayquaza's status in the Pokemon GO PVP meta is sad. Now, it's certainly not awful, but it's not great.

As with the previous two Pokemon, Rayquaza is best utilised in the Master League.

It's ranked in 53rd place, which is fine and it beats some very difficult Pokemon, including Mewtwo, Yveltal and both Kyogre and Groudon, but if you're looking to utilise it as a Dragonslayer, you're out of luck.

It's outclassed by almost every other major Dragon in the game - even by the likes of Goodra.

However, should you choose to use the flying serpent, your best moveset will be:

  • Fast Move - Dragon Tail
  • Charge Move - Outrage
  • Charge Move - Aerial Ace
