Pokemon GO - Is Heracross Good? Best Moveset, Max CP and Meta Relevance

I was lucky enough to head from the UK to Mexico a few years back and managed to snag myself a single Heracross whilst I was over there.

The dual Fighting/Bug-type Pokemon is my favourite in the series so I was disappointed to only nab one. Thankfully, Niantic heard my prayers for more.

As part of the Ultra Unlock Part 2: Space event, Pokemon, including Heracross, are appearing in regions that players wouldn’t normally expect to find them.

But apart from being my favourite, is Heracross actually good in Pokemon GO and should you spend your valuable raid passes on it? Let’s take a look at its best moveset, max CP and how it performs in PVP.

Is Heracross Good in Pokemon GO – Meta Analysis

Heracross is fine. It definitely has a place in Pokemon GO’s PVP mode but will certainly be more of a niche pick.

Its weakest performance is in the Great League, where PVPoke ranks it as the 123rd best pick. Despite not cracking the top 100, however, Heracross can beat some of the division’s trickiest foes, including Galarian Stunfisk, Bastiodon and Umbreon.

Sadly, it does fall foul of many of the league’s other most popular Pokemon, including Medicham, Azumarill, Altaria and Skarmory.

The Single Horn Pokemon performs equally as well across both the Ultra and Master Leagues, ranking 88th and 84th respectively, picking up wins against the likes of Swampert, Melmetal, Dialga, Yveltal, Groudon, Metagross and Zekrom along the way – not too bad!

So, while it’s never going to reach the lofty heights of many other Pokemon, Heracross can more than hold its own in Pokemon GO.

Alongside PVP, Heracross is a solid Fighting-type Pokemon when it comes to PVE and is a decent option to help you out against any Pokemon weak to this type.

Max CP and Best Moveset

Heracross has, maybe unsurprisingly based on its PVP performance, a decent max CP. At level 40, it can reach 3101 and, when powered up with XL Candies, Heracross can hit a max CP of 3506.

If you’re going to be using Heracross in the GO Battle League, you’ll want to ensure it’s equipped with the following moveset:

  • Fast Move – Counter
  • Charged Move – Close Combat
  • Charged Move – Megahorn
