It looks like the PSN will be under special maintenance for a few hours on August 3 and 4 for PS5 players, which coincides with the launch of the new MOBA Hunter's Arena: Legends. Sony says online games like it might be impacted, but it's also possible you might not encounter any issues.

Is PSN down for PS5 users? Maintenance time, schedule

Hunter's Arena: Legends is a new action RPG, MMO, and MOBA from Korean studio Mantisco. The game is coming to PS4, PS5, and PC, with a global launch happening this August 3. However, PlayStation Japan announced maintenance for the PSN server right when the game will be launching.

Ask PlayStation JP: "From 9:30 to 14:30 (JST) on August 3, and from 9:30 to 17:00 (JST) on August 4, the PSN will be undergoing maintenance. During maintenance, it's possible certain online features in certain games will be unavailable for PS5 users".

The maintenance time is scheduled at:

  • August 2, 8:30 PM to August 3, 1:30 AM EST
  • August 3, 8:30 PM to August 4, 04:00 AM EST

While this is a tweet from the Japanese side, seeing it doesn't specify a region, it's likely to be global server maintenance. Moreover, this is specific to PS5 users, so PS4 players shouldn't experience any issues. Last but not least, judging from the tweet, it's possible you won't be affected at all. As the tweet explains only specific games' online features could be affected.

Right now as I'm writing this, the official server status of PlayStation indicates the PSN servers are online. We'll see how the situation develops.

Hunter's Arena: Legends will launch its Asia server right when the maintenance starts, so Japan and Asia players might be affected. However, by the time EU and USA servers launch, the maintenance will be done.
