Rumor: Is Sony Attempting a Smash Bros. Style Fighting Game?

on November 27, 2011 2:30 PM

File this one under rumors for now, but the always-alert people over at NeoGAF, along with and a site called the have uncovered what appears to be a potentially huge game for Sony.  Or at least one that has taken its sweet time in getting here; a Sony themed fighting game akin to Nintendo’s extremely popular Smash Bros. series.  Rumor has that it is being developed by SuperBot, a developer who lists themselves as an “exclusive developer of Sony Computer Entertainment America.”

Sony certainly has a lot of characters that could star in this game.  Sly Cooper and his crew, Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter have all appeared together already, but they were working together.  Now they could be fighting.  Throw in other characters such as Kratos, Nathan Drake, the characters from the Team ICO games, Sweet Tooth, Nathan Hale, Parappa the Rappa, Cole MacGrath, Helgast Colonel Mael Radec, Rico Velasquez, etc.  The list is surprisingly long, as Sony now has three generations of systems to pull characters from.

We’ll be sure to keep you posted as more of this story develops.  It seems like the Paul Gale Network, a site I had never heard of prior to this (so take this news with a grain of salt), seems to have a lot of interesting possible details on the possible game.

Scott just graduated from Law School. But he didn't let that stop him from gaming, a hobby that he has stuck with ever since he received his NES at age 5. His favorites are Metal Gear Solid, OutRun, Half-Life, Deus Ex, Ratchet and Clank and most recently, the Mass Effect series.
