Splitgate has been one of the dark horses of this year, with the game gaining lots of popularity in the beta stages itself. In fact, the beta became such a sensation that the developers had to take the game offline. The game's servers could only handle 65,536, players at a time, and it recently hit the number.

Splitgate has grabbed the attention of many because of its unique mix of elements of Halo and Portal. While the game has been in beta since 2019, it recently became quite popular. This is not at all surprising, given the fact many other games have gained massive popularity out of nowhere in the past few months. This includes the likes of Among Us, Pacify, and many more.

The game is nearing a complete launch, and players have a couple of questions regarding the game. Here is all you need to know about it.

Is Splitgate Free to Play? - Crossplay Explained

The first question players have is whether the game is free to play or not. Well, the good news is Splitgate will be available for free for players at launch. The game will be releasing on July 27, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox Series S/X, and Xbox One.

However, it should be noted that there are microtransactions in the game. These are not only cosmetic in nature, as there are weapons that can be bought as well. As more players play the game at launch we should get a better insight about how much of an advantage these paid weapons provide, if there is any, to begin with.

The other good thing about Splitgate is that it will be supporting cross-play at the launch itself. This means that console players will be able to play with PC players, and vice versa. Crossplay usually boosts the player count considerably, and also leads to faster matchmaking times.
