Who Are The Eternals?

Before we discuss the connection between Thanos and Eternals, it is important to understand the origins of Eternals.

The immortal humanoid race of Eternals was created by the alien Celestials who appeared on Earth about one million years ago. Interestingly, after several years, the race diverged into two, namely the Eternals and Deviants.

While Eternals are meant to be defenders of the Earth, Deviants, on the other hand, are quite opposite as they have a destructive nature. Hence, the Eternals and the Deviants were in constant battle with each other.

Connection between Thanos and Eternals

As far as Thanos is concerned, who is also known as the Mad Titan, he might have died in Endgame. But there is still some crucial information about his identity that could unlock the mystery behind Eternals.

So is Thanos an Eternal?

The answer is yes and here are a few things that reaffirm the same:

First of all, in the scene where Thanos arrives in Vormir to obtain the Soul Stone, he is referred to as the “Son of A’lars” by Red Skull.

For the unacquainted, Thanos is the son of Eternal A'lars, a woman named Sui-San who's also an Eternal. Hence, Thanos is an Eternal too.

The origins of the Eternals can be traced back to a place known as 'Titanos' or 'Titan.' And Thanos is called the Mad Titan because he belongs to the same place.

There is the so-called Deviant Syndrome where some Eternals from Titanos were affected by it turning them into Deviants. Thanos' behavior so far looks similar to Deviants which means he probably belongs to the other category of Eternals.

Deviants possess heightened abilities and some difference in their appearance from other Eternals. This also explains why Thanos has a purplish face and great powers.

Interestingly, Thanos is also related by blood to Thena (played by Angelina Jolie in the MCU). Thena is the daughter of Zuras (A’lars brother). So this means that the two characters are actually first cousins.
