Pokémon developer Game Freak opened a teaser website with a silhouette and the phrase “A well known game played all around the world, is about to be reborn thanks to a surprising collaboration!” in Japanese.
But what is that collaboration? We may now have the answer to that question thanks to a trademark filed by Game Freak itself at the end of last year and officially registered recently for the name ソリティ馬 (Soriti Ba, meaning Soriti Horse), with the twin pronunciations ソリティバ and ソリティウマ (Soriti Ba and Soriti Uma, which mean the same thing).
The first four Katakana syllabes are the same as ソリティア (Soritia, the Japanese transliteration of Solitaire), and the silhouette definitely looks like the Pokémon version of a horse.
What game is more flitting to the definition of a “Well known game played around the world” than the dear old Solitaire? I’d say none, and the collaboration with such a classic would sure be surprising.
Below you can see the result of the trademark search. Of course this has to be chalked as a rumor until it’s officially confirmed, but I would say it’s a very solid case.
