Japan's Latest Splatoon 2 Splatfest Is Brought to You by Nike

With a little bit of product placement, Splatoon 2's latest Splatfest in Japan has you choosing between this shoe or that shoe.

March 18, 2018

In a delightfully bizarre bit of product placement, Japan’s next Splatfest will be featuring the age old question: which of these two shoes is the sickest of the kicks?

That’s right: Splatfest Japan has players deciding between the Nike Air Max 270s and the Nike Air Max 95s. Interestingly enough, it looks like the Inklings will be wearing the shoes of their respective teams, so that’s pretty cool. Currently, Pearl supports “Team New”, who will be sporting the Nike Air Max 270s, while best girl Marina subscribes to the philosophies of “Team Popular”, who will represent the Nike Air Max 95s.

While the change in avatar design and the addition of the sponsored shoes to the Inkling costumes is really neat, I can’t say much about this choice of Splatfest question when comparing it to previous gems such as Mayo vs. Ketchup, Chicken vs. Egg and Vampire vs. Werewolf, I am really looking forward to what sort of bizarre product placement-based question we’ll be getting in the Europe and North America/Oceania regions.

The Splatoon 2 Splatfest for Japan will be from March 24 at 15:00:00 JST until March 25, also at 15:00:00 JST. While you’re here, why not check out our review of Splatoon 2.
