Journey Composer Austin Wintory Receives Grammy Nomination

It’s no secret that Journey is one of my favorite gaming experiences of the year, not only for the gameplay and emotional impact of the title, but also for its soundtrack, as well. Composer Austin Wintory played no small part in grabbing at the heart strings of the player with his captivating score.

It should come as no surprise then that the soundtrack was nominated for a Grammy in 2013. It will sit in the category alongside a smattering of big movies from this year – The Artist, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Adventures of Tin Tin, The Dark Knight Rises and Hugo.

The only other video game soundtrack song to win a Grammy was Civilization V’s composer Christopher Tin with the track “Baba Yetu”. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Journey gets the win here when the program airs on February 10, 2013.
