While the first Jujutsu Kaisen anime ended, the original manga is still ongoing, with Chapter 146 releasing next week - however, a group of fans in Japan are unsatisfied with the current state of the manga, despite some big reveals, like Kenjaku, what happened?

Keep in mind this story contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen 145.

Who is Kenjaku?

Long story short, Kenjaku is one of the main villains in Jujutsu Kaisen, and has been set up as an antagonist since the beginning of the series. His goal is to "evolve" humanity using Curse Energy. His Cursed technique allows him to transplant his brain and switch bodies, surviving for centuries.

Kenjaku is currently possessing Suguru Geto, and as such is also known as "Geto (Tentative)" or "Pseudo Geto". However, while we knew about Kenjaku himself for a long while now, it's only with chapter 145 that his actual name, "Kenjaku", was revealed.

Why some fans dislike the current Jujutsu Kaisen manga arc?

Before we go in further, you need to keep in mind this is discourse happening in part of the Japanese fandom, on anonymous boards. This does not reflect the state of all the Japanese fandom or all the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom.

It's been only two weeks since the new arc, the Culling Game Arc, started, following the Itadori's Extermination Arc. However, several fans are claiming the new arc has way too much build up, explaining, and roundabout talking. And not enough fights. And while they didn't dislike the Kenjaku reveal itself, they thought all the explanations are too long.

Now, I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking the long dialogues are actually a good thing. Many weekly Shonen manga tend to focus on making readers interested week by week with cliffhangers and sudden developments. Without necessarily taking the time to build up their stories. Personally speaking, I think that's a waste, and Bleach always come to mind as the best example of this mistake in 2010s decade.

With that said, the fact that some fans are complaining and saying "no fights sucks" shows that's exactly why mangaka and editors focus on retaining the readers' attention week by week with fights, sudden twists and powerups. Rather than building up.

If you can speak Japanese, and you'd like to read some of the discourse yourself, if you and don't mind NSFW sites, Matome site Yaraon has one of the threads archived.

Lastly, this can't be stressed out enough, but keep in mind this is only a portion of Jujutsu fans thinking like this. Japanese social media has no consensus. And they do not reflect reality. Especially when it comes to anonymous message boards, where everyone is so hostile and heinous compared to their real life persona, it makes so-called "toxic" English communities on 4chan or Reddit look like Teletubbies.
