After initially leaking online, the red band trailer for the new Mortal Kombat movie dropped today, February 18. The teaser is exactly what you’d expect, gory, over the top action with a stellar cast of characters from the games and more than a few little nods to the series. The franchise is known for its characters with Sub-Zero, Liu Kang and Kabal, all on the Mortal Kombat roster.

While some of the characters are played by familiar faces, others are not so much. One of those characters is Kabal. While he’s not likely to have a leading role in the movie, he definitely makes an appearance. Let’s take a look at who Kabal is and who he is played by.

Who is Kabal?

Kabal made his first appearance in Mortal Kombat 3. He’s a warrior with superhuman speed. He wields a pair of Hookswords and wears a mask that looks like a cross between Ant-Man and Bane.

Throughout the series’ history, Kabal has often shifted alliances, never truly showing whether he is good or evil. Like all characters in the franchise, he has a range of brutal Fatalities and Brutalities.

Who plays Kabal in the Mortal Kombat 2021 Movie?

Kabal is played by New Zealand born actor and stuntman Daniel Nelson. While his face may not be instantly recognisable, he’s had roles in some huge movies. He plays the stunt double for Alexander Skarsgard in the upcoming Godzilla vs. Kong and has also performed stunts in Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar’s Revenge. Nelson has one directing credit and a handful of acting credits to go alongside his stuntwork.

When is the Mortal Kombat Movie out?

The release of the new trailer will certainly have piqued fans interest on the release date and where they can watch the movie. The good news is they won’t have to wait too long. The title is set for release on April 16 and will be coming to movie theatres, as well as streaming exclusively on HBO Max.
