Katamari Damacy Reroll Heading to PS4 and Xbox One in Japan
Na, naa na na na, na naa naa naa na na November 19.
If you were to make a list of the weirdest video games in history, the Katamari series would be right near the top. Playing as the Prince, you take command from the King of All Cosmos to move around a variety of wacky stages, rolling up everything you can in order to rebuild the stars that he has destroyed.
The first game, Katamari Damacy, was initially released in 2004 for the PS2. The game earned cult status and in 2018 was rereleased for both the Nintendo Switch and PC as Katamari Damacy Reroll. While it is an ideal handheld game, PS4 and Xbox One owners who are fans of the original were left high and dry. That is about to change however.
Reported over at Gematsu, developers Bandai Namco has confirmed both PS4 and Xbox One versions of Katamari Damacy Reroll, due for release in Japan on November 19 this year. Although the PS4 and Xbox One versions have only currently been confirmed for a Japanese release, it’s likely a Western announcement will follow. Historically games in the Katamari series have released in the West a few short months after Japan.
Reroll is more than just a port of the PS2 classic, receiving “fully updated graphics, completely recreated cutscenes and in full HD!”
Although we’ve not received a new Katamari game since Touch My Katamari on PS Vita in 2011 (excluding mobile versions), the game’s creator Keita Takahashi has still been releasing delightfully weird titles. His latest game, Wattam, sees you befriend a series of inanimate objects including rocks, trees and toilets. We scored it a 7/10.
As for Katamari Damacy Reroll, that got an 8.5/10 and should it get a Western PS4 or Xbox One release is definitely worth checking out. Until then the game is available to download right now for both PC and Nintendo Switch.
