Tripwire Interactive has released a free annual Summer update for Killing Floor 2. Entitled "Tidal Terror," this update will focus on the sea and what lurks in its depths.

Killing Floor 2 is a zombie first-person shooter that supports up to six players playing cooperatively. After releasing in late 2016, Killing Floor 2 was met with positive reception with a few caveats, namely the game's lack of plot. However, the game has been going from strength to strength ever since its release, as Tripwire still updates the game regularly.

Tidal Terror brings a whole host of updates. A new map, Rig, has been added, which will be playable in each of the Survival, Weekly, and Endless game modes. As the name suggests, the new map is an abandoned oil rig in the middle of the ocean. A new game mode called Arsenal Ascent, which is essentially Call of Duty's 'Gun Game' mode, has also been added. New cosmetics like the Horzine Deep Sea Exploration Suit and several weapon skin packs also come with the Tidal Terror update. Finally, the game has some new achievements, and a few quality-of-life fixes have been implemented.

A suite of new weapons is also being released; the Reducto Ray for survivalists, the Sentinel drone for commandos, the HRG Crossboom rifle for demolitionists, and finally, the HRG Headhunter for sharpshooters.

Tripwire released a brief trailer to mark the launch of the Tidal Terror update. The trailer takes the form of a propaganda video for Horzine, the scientific corporation that caused the original outbreak in the universe of Killing Floor 2. In the trailer, the narrator vows to not let anyone stand in the way of the company's progress, while background clips show the new Tidal Terror weapons and map in action. The Tidal Terror update will run from June 14 to July 12, and as mentioned previously, it will be completely free for existing Killing Floor 2 players. The update will be available on each of the game's platforms, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

To celebrate the update, Killing Floor 2 is currently on sale in digital marketplaces such as Steam and the Epic Store
