Yesterday, Game Director Steven ter Heide announced that he was leaving Guerrilla Games -- the team behind the Killzone series, RIGS, and recently Horizon: Zero Dawn -- after more than 12 years with the company. The news came via Twitter, where the director shared the following tweet:

As you can see above, Steven ter Heide mentions that he is leaving to start "something new," though details end there. Usually, a veteran of this caliber leaves to start their own independent studio -- which if I was a betting man I would say is likely what will happen -- however nothing is confirmed at the moment.

Guerrilla Games issued the following tweet as a reply, thanking the director for his years with the growing, Sony Interactive Entertainment-owned developer:

What this means for the Killzone series is likely nothing. However, one could speculate that combined with the recent enormous success of Horizon: Zero Dawn, which is surely going the series route, Killzone could be on the back-burner for awhile, and thus this aided Steven ter Heide in his decision. However, this is just mere speculation.
