Everyone knew Microsoft was serious about making Kinect a success when they revealed that they’d be spending $500 million on marketing. They also revealed their high expectations for the peripheral, predicting to move a staggering five million copies by year’s end.
Well, it has been exactly twenty five days since the Kinect launch and they are already halfway there. MS made this point in the release:
“We are thrilled about the consumer response to Kinect, and are working hard with our retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments of Kinect to restock shelves as fast as possible to keep up with demand. With sales already exceeding two and a half million units in just 25 days, we are on pace to reach our forecast of 5 million units sold to consumers this holiday.”
Kinect has been harder to get a hold of than a firm release date for the past few weeks here in Detroit. Looks like that marketing fund was a half a billion dollars pretty well spent. If they keep this momentum up, who knows how many copies they’ll have moved by next year?
