While the Kingdom manga remained consistent throughout the year, this week will mark one of the first of its delays for chapter 689 – when will it return?

The historical manga series was first released in 2006 and currently has 62 volumes and counting as Chapters 680-689+ formulate the next volume. The anime is so popular that it is highly rated at 8.98/10 on My Anime List.

Kingdom is written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara and loosely follows what is known as the ‘warring states period’ in China. The series did so well that in 2012 it was adapted into an anime series.

So far, between the release of each volume, there has been a 2-3 month gap. Therefore, fans can expect that once volume 62 concludes, volume 63 is expected to be released between September-October 2021.

While the anime version of Kingdom faced a delay as a result of the recent typhoon in Japan, fans wonder if this is the reason for the delay of the manga, as Chapter 689 was originally scheduled for release on Saturday, 14th August 2021 but was held back.

The delay comes as a result of Shueisha’s magazine reportedly going on a break for a week, although it is not confirmed to be directly a result of the typhoon or the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The manga is scheduled to return on 31st August 2021.

Recap of Kingdom Chapter 688

In Kingdom Chapter 688 titled ‘A Match of Speed’ fans saw Bihei tell Shin that he will protect the essential item given to him with his life. Akakin and his unit advance as they fend off attacks, though he sees something that causes him to investigate his sightings.

Upon looking at the cliff he sees that it will crumble if there is too much weight on it so he orders his soldiers to the enemy to buy time for the HSU and for Shin’s battle.

Shin’s swordsmanship is questioned by the ‘Pig Brothers’ though proves himself to be great in the battle against GHK as Bihei looks on. In the next chapter, we can expect to see more of the battle between Shin and GHK, as well as Kochou and Riboku, who will inevitably face off against Shin and his allies.
