Today, Square Enix announced that their long-awaited action RPG Kingdom Hearts III has shipped over five million copies worldwide making it the fastest selling game in the series. Seeing as the game has been 13 years in the making since the release of Kingdom Hearts II on Sony's PlayStation 2; it's not all too surprising that fans have come out in droves to support it.

Kingdom Hearts is known for its crossover between the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy although Square Enix's mega JRPG series is notably absent from the third mainline entryIt's worth noting that there's a difference between copies shipped versus copies sold, but honestly, it's pretty likely that Kingdom Hearts III will soar past this number in terms of sales at some point.

While I don't consider myself a huge fan of the series, it's great to know fans showing their support for the game. Kingdom Hearts has sort of acted as a zeitgeist for many young children and teens who played video games in the early 2000s.  And here's a fun fact, I was six years old when the first game came out in 2002.

Kingdom Hearts III is the final entry in the Dark Seeker Saga or as some fans know it the Xehanort Saga. More titles may follow, covering different storylines throughout its universe. We gave the game a remarkable 9 out 10, so if you want to hear our thoughts on the gameplay and story mode definitely check it out. Due to a handful of the copies of the physical game being leaked, the secret ending was released a few days after launch.

One popular new addition to Kingdom Hearts III comes in the form of an adorable selfie camera that Sora can use with the multitude of Disney characters you'll encounter throughout his journey. Additionally, singer Hikaru Utada returned to collaborate on the game's opening theme with the EDM producer Skrillex. Yesterday, Kingdom Hearts III also beat out Capcom's critically acclaimed remake of Resident Evil 2 on the UK sales chartIt's awesome to see that 2019 is already off to a tremendously great start thanks to some solid Japanese titles.

Kingdom Hearts III is available now on PS4 and Xbox One.
