Kizuna Ai Indefinite Hiatus Revealed in New Statement
VTuber Kizuna Ai will be taking a break starting February 2022.
Kizuna Ai revealed on December 4, 2021, she will be going on an indefinite hiatus after her Hello World 2022 live concert.
Kizuna AI is one of the most popular VTubers out there and one of the main reasons why the concept of Virtual YouTubers became so mainstream despite already existing for years on Niconico Douga. However, Kizuna Ai barely took any breaks since her debut and major breakthrough in late 2016.
Kizuna Ai initially focused on game-related streams, but then started singing like a Japanese idol pretty fast as well, and mixing game streams, trivia, and just chatting streams. Along with singing streams, all of this became staple content for VTubers. Especially those affiliated with the agencies Hololive and Nijisanji in Japan.
Nowadays, it’s also the norm for Japanese game studios especially to call over VTubers as guests during live streams. Or asking them to promote upcoming games as official ambassadors.
Many game studios or anime franchises also started using their own characters as VTubers. So it’s pretty funny to see iconic characters like Creamy Mami or Lina Inverse becoming VTubers when the concept wouldn’t exist in the first place if not for them.
